RNIB

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) is the UK’s leading sight loss charity, supporting blind and partially sighted people, their families and carers throughout the UK. Founded in 1868, they work to stop people losing their sight unnecessarily, support people to live independently, and create an inclusive society.

RNIB’s helpline provides access to sight loss experts who can answer questions and provide guidance on a wide range of issues. Their services include Eye Care Liaison Officers (ECLOs) based in hospitals who offer emotional support and practical advice following sight loss diagnoses. They provide accessible reading materials including talking books, RNIB Bookshare with over one million accessible books, and magazines in audio and braille formats.

The charity also offers employment advice and information, helping people with sight loss find and keep jobs. They run practical training courses, connect people through their radio station and online communities, and campaign for better accessibility in transport, banking and technology. Their work includes ensuring proven treatments are available on the NHS and making public services more accessible.
